Have you ever hit rock bottom?

I embarrassingly have.

It’s why I’m wearing my girl’s decorative scarf over my head, clutching her lady drink to my chest, and singing ever so softly to Joni Mitchell while swaying back and forth.

This is what therapists refer to as LOSING IT.

Oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy screws up MASSIVELY, girl tells boy to suffocate in the fruits of his very own unborn children.

Heard it before? I’m sure you have.

So what’s so different about this story? Well, it’s about me, The Modern Gentleman, New York City’s top advice columnist, and my rather ungraceful downfall from my pristinely polished pedestal.

It’s about a girl I met who threw all my proven theories to the wind and left me awkward, needy, and absolutely head-over-wingtipped shoes in love.

This is a story about June Lacy and how she single-handedly dismantled The Modern Gentleman.

Dear Gents,

See that remote in your hand? Yeah, the one that’s covered in pizza sauce and last night’s Buffalo wings? I want you to take a good look at it. Do you have it memorized? Good, now bend at the waist, set it on the coffee table, and stand up. Don’t you dare look at that remote again, don’t even glance at it. And the Xbox that’s calling your name, go ahead and forget about that as well, because guess what? You’re starting a new journey and it doesn’t include television, video games, or high-fiving over a bubbly belch from the bowels of your intestinal tract. Forget everything you’ve ever known about being a man, forget the hall passes you have for being a man, and forget every natural instinct you carry inside your bones. Because I’m here to refine you, replenish your knowledge on the male species, and turn you into a modern gentleman: a well-respected, polished, and confident individual with an epic sex appeal and killer style that will woo any female with a simple flash of your honest charm.

Stick with me, gents. I’m starting a revolution and it begins with you.

The Modern Gentleman

Author Meghan Quinn pens another hilariously fun romance.

The Modern Gentleman follows Wesley Waldorft Williams as he tries to write a how-to guide on how to catch the woman of your dreams. “Think How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, but the opposite.” While his almost misstep in dog doo-doo was the perfect meet-cute, his journey towards getting the girl is anything but smooth sailing.

There was a very awkward first date that started with an unflattering reservation name (c*ckd@ddy69) and ended… well, let’s just say very ungracefully. Then there was the post boozy brunch Magic Mike performance, which again left a lasting impression on June Lacy who is slowly but surely turning this very attractive and well-polished gentleman into a head-over-heals goofball.

“Food with me! … I mean, would you like to have dinner with me?”

What develops between them is deep connection that goes beyond a physical attraction or desire, it’s a surge of emotion that goes along with each moment of fun and warm fuzzy goodness. But what happens when June finds out the truth Wes had failed to reveal?

As with all of Meghan Quinn’s books, THE MODERN GENTLEMAN was an absolute delight to read. Packed with heart, delicious tension and laugh out loud moments, this most recent novel strikes a charming balance between fun and emotion.

“I like him as a man.
Adore him as a friend.
Love him as mine.”

Even though I prefer bossy, over protective alpha males, I couldn’t help but fall for Wes. Even though he remade himself into a refined and sophisticated gentleman, he was thoughtful, attentive, and patient and could easily poke fun at himself. I also loved his best friends Cadem and Roman who provided even more comedic relief. I hope we get books for them in the future.

The romance between Wes and June is seriously a slow burn since June is very old school. She has a rule of no kissing until the 10th date. But it was a journey I really enjoyed along with other details Quinn added like the introductions to each chapter with a letter to The Modern Gentleman.

Quinn has an amazing ability to draw the reader into a story that’s impossible to put down. This is a great weekend rom-com to.

The Modern Gentleman is a standalone contemporary romance by Meghan Quinn. Told mostly from the hero’s point of view, but we do get snippets from the heroine with a happy ending.
