Hot Shot
Hot Shot by Kelly Jamieson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sexy, flirty and fun. Kelly Jamieson writes a romance stoked by desire but curbed by fears.

If you read Body Shot, book #1 in the Last Shot series, you may recall Marco Solis. Ex-Navy SEAL, co-owner of Conquistador bar, happily single until super-hot model Carrie Garner starts spending time in his bar and getting under his skin. She’s also crazy talented with a camera and to Spain with a scholarship for design school and she’s totally out of his league. So for a guy who doesn’t let people get close for fear of being left behind there’s no reason for him to pursue her, but can he resister her?

When her best friend started dating her now fiancée Beck and knowing her modeling career wouldn’t last forever, Carrie Garner felt a bit unnecessary and decided to study abroad for a few months. But before leaving she’s roped into helping with her BFF’s engagement party by none other than Beck’s partner, the brooding, gorgeous Latin man who drives her crazy. Crazy enough to make her think twice about leaving.

If insecurities are unattractive, you’d think that beautiful people wouldn’t have problems with them, right? Wrong! Both hero and heroine in this story struggle with their own set of uncertainties that bungle up their attraction each other.

“If your first kiss could be described as candy, what would it be: Starburst, Snickers, Zero, or Goobers?”

After his parents are forcefully deported to Mexico when he was young, Marco and his sister are put into foster care. Soon after, he’s separated from his sister and bounced around from one family to the next, which causes a deep seated fear of being unwanted. Carrie grew up in a loving family full of successful professionals who must view her modeling career as flighty, making her feel like she’ll never measure up.

Even though Carrie and Marco couldn’t stand each other, they made an effort for their best friends’ sake and upon spending time together they realize that their attraction is mutual and scorching hot, and while their relationship started as just a fling with an expiration date, as they spend more time together and get to know one another the desire they felt grew to much more.

I really enjoyed getting to know this couple as they flirted, bantered, accepted and understood one another, helped each other get over their insecurities, plan a fun engagement party, help organize a program to get kids off the streets through art and ultimately fall in love.

Hot Shot is book #2 in the Last Shot series by Kelly Jamieson. It is a sexy, sweet and fun standalone contemporary romance with charming characters and an appealing storyline. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.
