Love So Right by Marquita Valentine is now live!!!
Love So Right (The Lawson Brothers #7)
This can be read as a standalone.
Apple McCoy has given up on love.
Preston Lawson has never given up on anything.
For years Preston Lawson has loved the beautiful and unattainable Apple McCoy from afar. Now he’s determined to make her his and he’s not going to let her fear of falling get in his way… until she bolts the morning after he finally gets her into bed.
Apple refuses to let any man get too close and Preston is no exception. She won’t allow herself to be seduced by the sexy bartender’s flirtatious smiles and bedroom eyes, which is exactly why she skips town for a much-needed vacation… only to run straight into Preston.
It’s not until they’re in paradise that she finally lets him in, eagerly succumbing to his persistent charms. But what happens when they return to Jessamine and reality sets in?
Will Apple shut him out once more, or will Preston be able to show her just how right they are together?
Love So Right by Marquita Valentine
My rating: 4 of 5 starsThe Lawson brothers never give up when it comes to “the one.” That is, the one woman they set their sights on to love for the rest of their lives and Preston Lawson is no exception. He set his sights on Apple McCoy a long time ago no matter how beyond his reach she may have seemed. Sensing a chink in her armor Preston took his chance, perhaps too hastily causing her to bolt the morning after. Can he convince her they belong together no matter what everyone else says or thinks?
“You know what you need? …A reminder”
He held out the camera, pressed his lips to her temple and took a picture. “Of us.”
Apple McCoy closed off her heart after one experience with one Lawson, she’s not about to let another one easily in. But Preston’s persistence worn her resolve down. She gave into him once but when the light of day shines on reality she decides to take a break from family, from tradition, from her small town, from reality, from Preston. Being the very persistent man she’s come to know though she won’t get far for long. Will she give them a real chance?
He was still taking pictures and she mostly knew what he would say next, but she wanted to be sure. “Because every time you start doubting yourself…or me, I want you to scroll through your pictures and look at us. Really look at us. Look at every picture that was taken this week.”
Even though I’ve read and enjoyed other books by Marquita Valentine, this is my first in the Lawson Brothers series and perhaps it wasn’t the best idea because even though Love So Right was full of flirty sexiness I felt as though I was missing part of Preston and Apple’s backstory. This should not be misunderstood though, there are no plot holes, the writing and pacing flows smoothly and has a very cute vibe, I just felt like I wasn’t privy to the tension that must have been building in previous books and then there were other things like the McCoy women’s names? Apple, Lemon, Jellie?
Preston’s character was easy to like. Even though he has the reputation of a player, he hasn’t been able to see anyone beyond Apple for a very long time, regardless of nettlesome façade she shows the world. He’s devoted to pursue and love her and no one will get in his way, not even Apple herself.
Apple had some big issues to get over. First there was the matter of her broken heart and then all that other baloney with the town not wanting McCoy women to take good men and the McCoy tradition itself. The latter two were points of contention for me. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the McCoy tradition and Apple wanting someone and having to hold back.
Preston’s persistence comes through for both of them though as Apple faces her fears while trusting him and giving into their heart’s desires making fall into love pretty sweet.
Love So Right is book #7 in the Lawson Brothers series by Marquita Valentine. It is a standalone short story. A contemporary romance told from both points of view with a happy ending.
