My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A sweet, sexy and endearing hockey romance.

NHL defenseman Roman Sýkora marches at the beat of his own drum on and off the ice. No matter how much bad publicity he gets from tabloids though, he’s committed to give his all to his team. But management doesn’t agree and is pressuring him to tone down on scandals and cut back on his penalty time. The good news is that a spirited ukulele playing barista has captured his full attention, eliminating problem one. The bad news is that she’s the owner’s newfound daughter garnering unwanted attention from the general manager and Lexi’s half-sister.

After her mother’s death, Lexi Robertson’s life would never be the same. On her deathbed, her mother revealed that her father was none other than the owner of Cold Fury, current NHL champions. Lexi moves to North Carolina to meet and build a relationship with her new family, she’s also excited to be going out with the team’s teddy bear disguised as the big bad wolf. But can she stay out of the complications between Roman and her new family?

“We were dating the minute I heard you on that stage playing your ukulele… Even if neither of us fully realized it then.”

You’d think that after reading six books in a hockey series, the storylines would start to feel the same but Sawyer Bennett always makes her novels unique. With Roman, we don’t just get one love story, we get a twofer plus, alongside Roman and Lexi’s romance, there’s more Ryker and Gray and Brian Brannon’s very own love story. That’s right, the Cold Fury’s owner gets his own HEA.

After his wife’s death Brian had tried to move on and briefly dated a lovely woman with whom he had Lexi even though he hadn’t known she existed until she shows up in his office. He welcomes her with open arms and in doing so he’s introduced to Georgia Mack, a woman who is his complete opposite, determined to shake, rattle and roll his too proper CEO britches.

“We’re going to lunch… I’m killing two birds with one stone. We need to talk about Lexi and I’m tired of waiting for you to ask me out. You move at the speed of molasses and I’m not getting any younger.”

On the other end of the age spectrum, we have Roman who is caustic, cocky and nonconformist. He’s also a sexy, caring and capable of being ovary exploding sweet. Because even though he likes his loner lifestyle, the pull to be with the funny, mischievous and carefree barista is natural and undeniable.

With a devilish gleam in his eyes, he said, “Come on… let’s cuddle.”
Roman Sýkora, hockey bad boy, shameless flirt, total panty dropper asking me to cuddle. Who was I to say no.

Lexi and Roman definitely chemistry but as they see each other for who they are, they fit together perfectly. Their relationship develops organically with heavy flirting, plenty of innuendo and sizzling hot sexy times. The problems in their relationship is that he doesn’t crave a family like Lexi does or that he’s afraid of commitment. Their main source of tension comes from Lexi’s half-sister Gray who doesn’t like Roman’s attitude and is a bit jealous and wary of Lexi.

Roman is book #7 in the Cold Fury series by Sawyer Bennett. It is a sweet and sexy, easy to read standalone sports romance. A must for Cold Fury fans. Told from various points of view (Lexi, Roman and Brian) and has a happy ending.
