Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in this prequel to USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s The Wedding Belles series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.
Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter’s wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes–until she finds out who she’ll be working with.
Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile…
Lauren Layne packs a sweet, tender and sexy punch in this short but very enjoyable romance!
Who else would the daughter of the former president of the US turn to plan her wedding but the Wedding Belles. New York’s best wedding planning agency who have called their two best photographers to take on the social event of the year.
“Contrary to the delusions in your head, you’re not every woman’s fantasy.”
“I never wanted to be every woman’s fantasy. Just yours.”
Leah McHale and Jason Rhodes had an amazing summer a year ago. They had found a connection in each other that they hadn’t been able to find before or since because a misinterpretation led to two very broken hearts. But that was then and the only way Leah will be in the same room as Jason now is because of the amazing opportunity the Belles have presented them. To Jason though, this is more than a job, it’s a chance to convince Leah to believe in him and in them.
Lauren Layne knows how to write a compelling contemporary romance that’s guaranteed to make you smile no matter its length. The second chance nature of the plot helps with the believability in the connection and chemistry between the characters which is clearly present.
Although I’m not a fan of avoidable misunderstandings as a central theme in novels, I did enjoy getting to know each of the main characters and their journey to find their happiness despite both their stubbornness.
“They’d both acted like fourteen-year-olds, not rational thirty somethingb adults. And yet, was there anything really rational about love?”
Even if this is a short prequel to main novels, the character development is good. I understood Jason’s need to be trusted and believed in due to his background and Leah’s desire to have Jason fight for them. Their frenemy back and forth was fun, sexy and spicy which lessened my frustration while they figured things out between them.
“He was the helpless moth to her curvy, prickly, hot-as-sin flame.”
From this Day Forward is the prequel novella in The Wedding Belles series by Laruen Layne. It’s a great start to what I’m sure will be an amazing series full of sweet sexy moments. It can be read as a standalone. Told from both points of view.
