A sexy adventure between two damaged hearts that don’t believe there’s love After Love but who are enjoying to flirt with the idea.

Nick Archer has dedicated his life to public service. A former marine and now an undercover DEA agent he only has room for one thing, to take down the bad guys who’ll put people’s lives in danger by selling drugs. Even if he had time for a relationship he wouldn’t pursue one, not after his wife cheated on him. So when he’s forced to take on a K9 as a partner he’s not too excited… until he meets his trainer.

After losing the love of her life in the line of duty, Jamie Chambers devoted herself to her service dogs. When tasked to match one of her dogs with the sexy arrogant Nick she knows love is not in not a possibility. Some fun with the magnetic man however, wouldn’t hurt. But like recognizes like and what starts out as a no strings attached fling between the two turns out to be much more. Can they overcome their past hurts and risk their hearts for love After Love?

“Make her realize that life with you, however short, is better than life without you… You’re Nick Archer, the keeper of things she must have in her life to be happy.”

This story was as much about the romance as it was about Nick’s job getting drugs off the streets while under cover. It was fun to watch Nick, the cocky, rugged agent get in trouble at work and have to acquiesce to getting a partner.

Trouble should have been Nick’s middle name and no human or animal could keep him from it, but Harley, his German shepherd, was a wonderful addition and gave Nick an added appeal. Harley was adorable and when he went above and beyond the call of duty I was in total doggie love!

“, doggie style.”

Harley wasn’t the only supporting character that made this story richer. Grammy, Nick’s grandmother was a total hoot caring for her law enforcement grandsons while she grew her own pot! We also met Nick’s brothers who I hope we get to know more of in the subsequent books.

While Nick and Jamie’s attraction was instantly palpable and they took advantage of it in very sexy ways, they both had deep scars from their past they needed to work through. Although they thought they could settle with taking pleasure from each other, the connection between their hearts couldn’t be ignored. It was a nice change of pace to see the hero realize this sooner than the heroine. Jamie took a long time to decide whether to push or pull, which did annoy me a bit and made the ending feel a bit rushed. I would have loved to have an epilogue with Harley puppies.

After Love is the kickoff book in the Austin Heroes series by Kathy Clark. It’ a sexy, light romance that can be read as a standalone. Told from alternating points of view with a happy ending.

3.5 doggie luv stars
